Sidewalk chalk is one of our favorite summertime tools! Disguised as a simple toy, it opens up a whole host of learning opportunities for your kiddos! In our search for chalk recipes, we stumbled across this awesome post by Beth Gordon of 123 Homeschool 4 Me and really liked her 'less mess' version of this summer staple!

Materials

1 cup Plaster of Paris

3/4 cup warm water

2 tablespoons powdered tempera paint

Creating the Chalk

Simply combine all of the ingredients together until mixed thoroughly and pour into a mold. Beth suggests silicone baking molds or paper Dixie cups. Before the chalk has set (which it tends to rather quickly) add craft stick handles if desired!

The chalk will be fully dry and ready for play in a few hours. Simply pop the chalk out of the baking mold or peel away the cup and - voila! Whether you use it for learning games or student-led play, we love the vibrant colors and the fact that it doesn't leave as much chalky residue on your hands!
