Falling into Space, Foreshortening Art Project Idea

Foreshortening Art Project
Lines, Dots, and Doodles

Introduce your art students to the concept of foreshortening with this creative idea featured by Holly over at Lines, Dots, and Doodles. It would be perfect to tie into a space theme as well!

Falling into Space

Provide each of your students with a piece of white paper and have them trace their hands and feet. Then have them draw an oval for their head above their hands, followed by drawing in their arms and legs.

Once everything is drawn, have your students color themselves in with oil pastels and cut their pictures out. To create the "falling into space" effect, have them glue their pictures onto black paper and use paint to add stars and planets to the background.

Voila! The pictures are complete. What a great idea for introducing the concept of foreshortening! And, hanging the projects around your class would make for a really cute display! Just make sure you hang them high enough to create the "space" effect.
