"Unless..." New Years Resolution Bulletin Board Idea

We're always blown away by Barbara's creativity and are super grateful that she's willing to share her amazing ideas with us! This feature comes a bit later that it should have, but this idea was too good not to share and we know it's a keeper for the inspiration folder!

Barbara Gruener is an elementary counselor, character coach, and the creator of The Corner On Character, and this year, instead of crafting the usual New Years resolutions, she inspired her students to think beyond themselves and come up with ways that they can be intentional about being peacemakers and advocates of fairness!

We love the Dr. Seuss theme and the way Barbara incorporates her students' resolutions! What a powerful visual aid reminding students that true peacemakers care enough to take action!

How Will You Make 2015 Better?

  • Background: Royal blue or specialty 'night sky' bulletin board paper.
  • Title: "How Will You Make 2015 Better?" - Also included and a main focal point of the board/title, is Dr. Seuss' quote;

    Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not."

  • Border: Use your students' resolutions, written on star cutouts, to create the border.
  • Decoration: 1) The Lorax. Freehand the character standing on a log or find a clip art image/coloring page that can be enlarged using your classroom projector system and traced onto appropriately colored paper. {Here's a coloring page that would work!} 2) The Truffula Trees. Cut wavy strips from colored paper to create the tree 'trunks', then use art tissue paper to create puffs to attach to the top of each trunk. Rachael of Shore Society has a great tutorial for creating the puffs at her blog!
