Yesterday we shared how to tweak Mrs. Adams' fabulous transportation printables to fit your June safety unit and, if you're looking for more resources to use, here's another set of printables from Twinkl that would make a great addition to your lessons. Road safety and pedestrian safety are great topics to cover during your unit. While your preschoolers are not drivers, nor should they be near the road without adult supervision, reinforcing the importance of safety and the active role we each play in our own safety, is an important concept for your little ones to learn. For example;

  • Seat belts and car seats, while they can be easy to complain about, really do have a purpose - to keep us safe in the event of an accident.
  • Misbehavior in the car can be distracting to the driver and, in turn, put their safety and the safety of their passengers at risk.
  • Just because you can see a car, does not mean the driver of the car can see you! Poor decisions like chasing an errant toy into the street or running away from mom in the grocery store parking lot, as well as simple inattention when traffic is encountered can, in a quick second, put your safety and the safety of others at risk.

These road crossing safety posters are another way to encourage your preschoolers to take an active role in their safety. While they should never cross the road without the help of a crossing guard or trusted adult, students should practice adding these important steps to their crossing routine. That way, when they're old enough to handle crossing on their own, the safety precautions will already be ingrained!
