We love these message in a bottle crafts from Jaime over at Frogs & Snails & Puppy Dog Tails and thought they would make a fun addition to your literacy center this Valentine's Day! There are so many things you could do with them...

  • Real v. Nonsense Words. Fill the bottle with real and nonsense words written on scraps of paper or Valentine's Day themed cutouts. Provided with a sorting mat and recording sheet, invite your students to dump the bottle contents, sort the words into their proper category {real or nonsense}, then write all of the real words on their recording sheet.
  • ABC Order. Add focus/vocabulary words {written on scraps of paper or themed cutouts to the bottle}, inviting your students to dump the contents of the bottle, put the words in alphabetical order, and show their work on the recording sheet.
  • Crack the Code. Fill each bottle with a different sight word code {check out these two posts here and here. Provide your kiddos with a code key and recording sheet, inviting your kiddos to find the message in each bottle, crack the code, and show their work on the recording sheet.

These are just a few of the ways you can use these fun message in a bottle crafts from Frogs & Snails & Puppy Dog Tails to spice up your holiday literacy center!
