Mother Goose Day {May 1st} is coming up fast and we think it would be lots of fun to incorporate various rhymes into your learning centers - like this Peas Porridge Hot inspired patterning exercise from Hubbard's Cupboard! Your kinders will have a great time identifying, copying, and making simple/complex patterns!

Supplies You'll Need

  • Sentence strips
  • Pea, bowl, and spoon cutouts

We love that this exercise gets progressively complex. At first, students are charged with simply identifying a completed pattern strip - AB, AAB, ABC, or ABB. Next, students are invited to use their cutouts to complete a pattern prompt. And last, students are asked to create patterns of their own {using the completed pattern strips as guides}. This is a great way to reintroduce the concept of patterning and build on their learned skills.

For the full lesson, be sure to visit Hubbard's Cupboard! And, while you're there, be sure to stick around - there are lots of great nursery rhyme ideas!
