Fun with Spelling

Spelling and Literacy Kindergarten Lesson Plan

Here's a simple spelling exercise we found at Kingdom of the Pink Princesses that is sure to strengthen your kinders' command of the alphabet and phonics!

Supplies You'll Need

  • Activity mat {a fun place mat would work perfectly}
  • Letter manipulatives {they can be wooden, plastic, magnetic, stickers, or anything else you can think of!}
  • Objects from around the classroom

To complete the activity simply set out the mat, letters, and the bin of collected objects. One at a time, have your kiddos pull out an item, using the letter manipulatives to sound out and spell the word. [NOTE: If you wish for them to be able to spell multiple words at a time, you'll need several sets of letters!] For less advanced learners, you might set out both the objects and word cards for students to match then practice spelling.

Be sure to check out the full post at Kingdom of the Pink Princesses where they describe the types of materials used and where to get them!
