Behavior Management Strategies - Mystery Person

Positive Behavior Management and Classroom Management Strategies for Teachers

Kathleen over at Growing Kinders came up with this idea and we think it would be a great way to motivate positive positive behavior choices in the classroom! The concept is simple;

  • Craft sticks labeled with students' names are placed in a container.
  • Each morning, one or two of the craft sticks are selected from the container and placed in the "Mystery Person" can.
  • At the end of the day, if the mystery person/people behaved in line, listened and followed directions in class with few warnings, etc. they got a surprise. If the mystery person/people did not behave, their name went back into the container and was never revealed.

While it may feel a little like bribery, positive reinforcement - especially for younger age groups - can be a great motivator and reminder to make good choices! The fact of the matter is, the reward doesn't have to be grand. A little recognition is all that's needed! Kathleen suggests "Power Pellets" or "Happy Rocks". If you don't know what these cute management strategies are, be sure to visit Kathleen's blog for the full details! Of course, a fun sticker or simple "Caught Being Good!" bracelet {pictured below} would work too!
