Character Building and Halloween Bulletin Board Idea

Barbara Gruener, school counselor and character coach, over at The Corner On Character recently submitted a photo of her new fall bulletin board design for Red Ribbon Character Week and we think it would make a fabulous addition to any learning environment! Vibrant and fun, here are a few of our favorite things about this board...

  • It's positive message. This is a great way to remind students that making good choices - showing respect, caring for others, being a friend that can be trusted, etc. - is always cool!
  • It's theme. The superhero theme is perfect for Red Ribbon Character Week, but it also offers a fabulous compliment to the Halloween season!
  • It's building blocks. Barbara wanted to recognize the character 'super power' of each student at her school and actually got all of the parents in on it!  Each parent was invited to decorate a superhero shield/symbol for their child, writing and drawing about the trait that makes their child a character superhero.  How cool is that?!  A parent's praise/recognition is so very important to a child's self-esteem and we love that Barbara and her colleagues provided the parents at their school with a venue to get involved and recognize their child!  [NOTE: Barbara provides the superhero shield/symbol printable for FREE over at The Corner On Character!]

Character is Our Super Power!

  • Background: Yellow bulletin board paper.
  • Title: "CharACTer is Our Super Power!" - We LOVE how Barbara highlighted the word "act" in "character". It's a great reminder that character is a verb and requires continually making good choices!
  • Border: Superhero or character theme trimmer. You might also simply use a complimentary solid or patterned border.
  • Decoration: Create a large character superhero shield/symbol in the center of the bulletin board using red and blue background paper. Add the character traits and title to the cutout using yellow stick-on letters. Finish off the board by adding the cutouts completed by parents!
