Add excitement to your insect unit with these cute ideas on ants that were featured over at Peace, Love and Kindergarten! The creative ideas will incorporate ants into every lesson throughout your day - language arts, reading, science and even art - so by the end of the day your kiddos will be ant experts!
Begin your adventure into ants by reading a story together as a class. A perfect selection would be The World of Ants by Melvin Berger. Then continue on with these wonderful ideas:
Ant Anchor Chart
After reading a fun story to introduce ants to your class, take time to put together an anchor chart filled with everything you learned.
Take a creativity break and have your kiddos create their very own ants. All you'll need: black and white construction paper, scissors and glue. And if you want to spruce up the ants a bit, give each student a pair of wiggle eyes!
Creative Writing Activity
Set the stage for a creative writing activity by reading Hey, Little Ant together as a class. The story is about a little boy who goes around stepping on ants and it is told from the perspective of the little boy and the ant. When you're finished, pose the following question to your class: "Should the boy step on the ant?" Reading their answers and reasons should be really entertaining!
Once your kiddos are finished with their writing assignments, use them as a super cute classroom display!
Ant-Themed Word Wall
Use your students ant crafts to spruce up your word wall for the week!
