Spring is quickly approaching! Look forward to getting out of those freezing temps and turn a dreary winter day into a look forward to Spring with this colorful watercolor resist art activity featured by Natalie over at smART Class.

SUPPLIES NEEDED:

White Watercolor Paper

Crayons

Wet Rag

Blue and Back Watercolor Paint

Paint Brushes

Have your students start by drawing the horizon line across their page with a white crayon. Under the horizon line have them draw ovals showing puddles on the ground (larger ovals the closer you get to the bottom of the page). Complete with rain drops by drawing straight dashed lines down from the top of the page, connecting each one to the center of a drop (using a straight edge will be helpful for this task). Then allow students to add a rainbow, lightning bolts or other details if they wish.

Students may find it helpful to draw on a dark surface when using the white crayons.

Once the crayon drawing is completed, run across the entire paper with a wet rag.

Begin painting with several large blue 'blobs' on the page (you could also add turquoise or aqua if you want to add a second blue dimension). Then, outline the blue blobs with black. It won't take long for the black to begin blending with the blue paint on the wet page!
