Isn't it amazing what you can do with recycled toilet paper rolls, an egg carton, construction paper, and colored craft sticks!? Cari over at Time For Play used these simple materials to create an awesome sorting activity that reinforces color recognition, number recognition, and counting. Not only is it easy to make, we know you kiddos will have a blast with it!

Materials

recycled toilet paper rolls

construction paper in assorted colors

glue dots

black permanent marker

recycled egg carton

low temp glue gun

colored craft sticks (if you have natural craft sticks here's a tutorial for dying your own!)

Assembling the Activity

  1. Wrap each toilet paper roll with construction paper of a different color. Use glue dots to hold the paper in place.
  2. Use the black permanent marker to label each roll with the appropriate color word. In addition to the colors, label each roll with a different number as well.
  3. Use a low temp glue gun to attach the toilet paper rolls to the egg carton.
  4. When dry, you kiddos can use the sorter to count and sort craft sticks by color!

This is just one of the awesome activities we found over at Time For Play. Be sure to head over there and check out all the fun stuff Cari and her kiddos have going on!
