Using Marshallows for Circle Painting

If you're looking for a few ideas to spruce up your shapes unit for your Kinders this year, check out these ideas featured by Julie at Mrs. Lee's Kindergarten! Your kiddos are sure to enjoy the activities. Julie's students sure look like they were having a great time!

Circle Painting

Provide each student with a white piece of paper to begin. On each table place several different colors of paint on paper plates and provide marshmallows students can use to create a circle painting. Try using different size marshmallows (mini, regular, jumbo) to add a bit of interest. Julie's class was working on the sight word "I" at the time, so she had her students add a short statement to the picture to practice their sight word for the week {optional}. The finished product is shown above.

Create Shapes with Friends

Divide your class into small groups and have them work together to create different shapes: circle, square, triangle, rectangle. How many can they successfully complete?

Shape Monster Glyphs

Have your students use construction paper and glue to create a shape monster glyph. Julie provides the instructions for the glyph here. You'll want to have shapes precut before you begin (unless your kiddos are really good with scissors!) and then allow your class to simply create. They turned out super cute!
