Have you heard of Callista Gingrich's children's tale Sweet Land of Liberty? In the story, Ellis the Elephant travels through time and space, visiting pivotal moments in American history, to learn how America became the land of the free. While not specifically about the holiday, this book offers a great opportunity for students to learn why we have patriotic holidays in the first place and why they're important!

Along with the book, here are three awesome printables that you can use with your kiddos this Memorial Day as well! They're great for learning about one of the most important symbols of our country, the American flag!
