Colorful "Bugs in Their Habitats" Art Project for Kids

Spring offers a wonderful opportunity for students to learn about bugs and to study them in their natural habitats! We absolutely love these colorful projects created by the second graders of Thomas Elementary School. What a fun way to capture their learning! The finished projects are certainly display worthy!

Directed by Zach, art teacher and creator of Thomas Elementary Art, here's how the kiddos created these gorgeous projects:

  1. Each student chose one specific bug to study and, after doing their research, drew a detailed drawing of the bug onto a piece of heavy art paper and colored it with colored pencils.
  2. Next, the students were charged with the task of drawing the bug's habitat, keeping scale in mind, and used tempera paint to bring the scene to life.
  3. To finish the craft, students attached their finished bug drawings to the habitat scene using adhesive three-dimensional foam O's creating a neat effect - the bugs 'pop out' from the scene!

Here are more awesome finished projects!
