President's Day is fast-approaching... are you ready?? If you haven't thought quite that far ahead, don't worry! Heidi over at Mrs. Samuelson's Swamp Frogs has put together a few wonderful research activities to get you through the holiday. And best part, she provides the worksheets you will need for FREE!

President's Day Venn Diagram

Spend some time with your students in the week leading up to President's Day reading and learning about two of our most influential presidents: George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. As you go, keep a web or chart of the information you gather about each man.

Once you've compiled a list, have your students complete a Venn Diagram about the two men (as shown above). Heidi even provides cut-outs containing information on each president that your students could use to complete the diagram!

President Lincoln Was/Had/Wanted Chart

After your class has spent time researching our presidents and completing the venn diagram, have your students complete the provided "Was/Had/Wanted" chart as a writing assignment and extension of what they have learned.

Heidi provides the starting and concluding sentences to get your kiddos started. They just need to fill in a few short sentences to complete the paragraph: one about who President Lincoln "Was," another about what President Lincoln "Had," and a final sentence about what President Lincoln "Wanted."
