Any pizza lovers out there?? I have yet to meet a youngster who doesn't love pizza. So this 100 pizza toppings to celebrate 100 days idea featured by Mrs. Durning-Leander over at K-2 is Splendid! is sure to get your kiddos excited!

Celebrate 100 Days with 100 Pizza Toppings

Step 1: Cut a large circle from white poster board and paint it yellow. Or, if you're lucky enough to have yellow on hand, use that! Depending on the size of your class, you may want to make several 'pizzas' so the class can work on the activity in groups (a group of 6 seemed to work well in the example). You could also get your students invloved by having them help paint the pizza crust. Just make sure you do so at least a day ahead so the paint has time to dry.

Step 2: Next, provide each student with pizza toppings to color. Mrs. Durning-Leander provides a printable for you to use here. Make sure each group has an assortment of toppoings and that the total number of toppings equals 100.

Step 3:Once the coloring is finished, have your students lay all of their toppings onto the pizza crust and count the total number of each topping. Then have them record the fractions onto precut and labeled signs. Make sure to have them add up their fractions to ensure it adds up to 100! What a great way to review adding fractions!

Step 4:Have your students glue the pizza toppings onto the crust and hang them as a display with the recorded fractions placed around the pizza. If you have several pizzas, it may be fun to have your students look at the different fractions each pizza produced! Did one pizza have 4 pineapples and another have 18? Which pizza would they like best?
