What the Teacher Wants!, a fabulous created by the talented Natalie and Rachelle, is another go-to resource when we're looking for new ideas! We peeked into Rachelle's classroom and here's what she has going on for MLK Day...

Portrait Craftivity

Using Dianne Tansey's cut and paste pattern, Rachelle has her kiddos create a portrait of Dr. King. We think this is a great 'processing activity'. As students follow directions and use the template to create the pieces, the time spent provides an opportunity to reflect on their learning about Dr. King!

"I have a dream..." Writing Prompt

In the spirit of Dr. King's life and legacy, Rachelle invites her students to think about how they would like to help others, now and/or in the future. After brainstorming a few ideas, she then has her kiddos write about their dream for making the world a better place. The prompt page that she created for the activity can be downloaded for FREE at What the Teacher Wants! You'll just need a camera to take pictures of your kiddos or, if you find yourself in a time crunch, you could simply have your students draw a portrait of themselves.

We are always inspired when we visit What the Teacher Wants! and highly recommend heading over to check out Natalie and Rachelle's amazing site!
