Paper Plate Easter Basket Craft

Paper Plate Easter Basket Craft

Perfect for the Easter holiday, there are two variations to this paper plate Easter basket craft - Easter eggs or Easter chicks. Have your kiddos choose between the two or just craft both!

Supplies you'll need

  • Paper plates [We used these. They're inexpensive and work great for the craft!]Valu Time Paper Plates
  • Craft scissors
  • Brown craft paint
  • Craft glue
  • Scrapbook paper in assorted pastel colors/patterns
  • Egg template {optional}
  • Yellow card stock
  • Yellow craft feathers
  • Easter grass [Shredded paper also works!]

Creating the Easter Basket

You'll need two paper plates to create the Easter basket. Begin by cutting one of the paper plates in half. [Note that you'll only use one of the halves for each basket, so for this part, you'll only need one plate for every two students.] Next, invite your kiddos to take the second plate and cut the (wavy) band from around it. Be sure to have them cut it off in one full piece. [See figure below.]

Armed with brown craft paint, paint brushes, and markers, invite your students to paint and decorate the pieces. When dry, they can finally be assembled into a basket shape.

Filling the Basket

Have your kiddos decide whether they want to add Easter eggs or Easter chicks to their basket.

To create the Easter eggs...

  • Find an egg template online, printing it onto card stock and cutting it out.
  • Have students trace the egg shape onto colorful patterned scrapbook paper, then cut out the shapes and paste them to the back of the basket.

Easter Chick Craft

To create the Easter chicks...

  • Find an egg template online, printing it onto card stock and cutting it out.
  • Have students trace the egg shape onto yellow card stock and cut it out.
  • Armed with a black marker, scissors, and orange paper, invite your kiddos to create the chick's eyes and beak.
  • To finish off the chick, have students trace around the edge of the cutout with a glue stick and add yellow craft feathers.
  • The chicks can then be glued to the basket.

As a finishing touch, paste Easter grass or shredded paper to the basket!
