Picture Books for Father's Day

Father's Day Books and Literature Preschool Lesson PlanFather's Day is fast approaching and, in the spirit of celebrating a father's role in their child's life, it's always fun to add some new literature selections to story time or the classroom library. We found several sites that compiled lists of Father's Day favorites and thought they might come in handy if you don't have any of your own...

  • Turning The Page, a blog created and maintained by The Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County, featured eight selections that both kids and adults will enjoy! "33 Uses for a Dad" by Harriet Ziefert, "The Day I Swapped My Dad for 2 Goldfish" by Neil Gaiman and, a late addition, "When Dads Don't Grow Up" by Marjorie Parker are among the list of fun 'dad books'!
  • Karen MacPherson, children's/teen librarian and contributor to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, compiled a list of cute {and quirky!} books that would be perfect for the holiday - including "You Can Do Anything, Daddy!" by Michael Rex, about a boy and his 'superhero' father, and "If My Dad Were a Dog" by Annabel Tellis.
  • Candace Lindemann, children's author and educational consultant, over at Naturally Educational, also put together a list of Father's Day favorites - including more traditional titles like, "A Perfect Father's Day" by Eve Bunting and "Because Your Daddy Loves You" by Andrew Clements.
  • Don't forget “My Dad” by Anthony Brown, recommended by Deborah over at Teach Preschool!

We hope you and your kiddos enjoy these fun Father's Day picture books!
