Outdoor Gross Motor Learning Games and Preschool Lesson Plan

As the school year comes to a close, here's a super fun activity from Little Hands, Big Work to get your preschoolers moving. All you need is an empty parking lot and some sidewalk chalk! We love the the idea of having your kiddos follow color paths as well as 'race' through the circle maze! It would also be great {as mentioned} to use the sidewalk games to practice letter and number recognition...

  • Draw a simple path - going straight, in a circle, etc. - and have your kiddos hop from circle to circle, identifying the letter or number.
  • Jumble all the letters/numbers up and have students jump from space to space, in the correct order. [NOTE: This will take a bit of planning since you don't want the letters too far away from each other!]

Simple hopscotch, four square, and other traditional kids games are also great gross motor builders and help get some of those 'last days of school wiggles' out!
