Mini Sombreros

A fun party decoration {or surprise treat holder!}, these mini sombreros designed by Amanda Formaro are sure to be an instant hit! Instead of a simple craft, you could even use these fun props as part of your activity centers...

  • Print upper and lower case letters on the bottom of each sombrero - inviting students to create matches.
  • Script a numeral on the bottom of each sombrero and have your kiddos put the hats in order.
  • Invite students to practice color recognition by leaving the foam cups and paper plates separate - decorating each plate with one color of craft pom poms and adding a color word to each cup - and inviting students to make the correct matches.
  • Label each sombrero with a different beginning letter sound and create a variety of picture cards. Invite students to sort the cards, placing them on the appropriate sombrero.

Maracas

Another fantastic Formaro-design, these instruments can be used for lots of fun activities...

  • Teach your students a traditional Spanish dance, adding in some maraca play.
  • Play Spanish music and allow your students to dance freely.
  • Pretend to put on a 'Spanish parade' - complete with music, dancing, and maracas!
  • Build listening and patterning skills - inviting students to copy sound patterns.

These crafts are the tip of the iceberg! Be sure to visit Kaboose for lots of other great ideas!
