Our Dream Quilt - A Celebration of MLK and Black History Month

You can't talk about Black History Month without a discussion of Martin Luther King, Jr. - his vision, his values, and his legacy. Diane, featured contributor to Preschool Rainbow, submitted this great idea for celebrating Dr. King's life and we think it would be an appropriate extension of your Black History Month lessons.

Our Dream Quilt

After a mini lesson on MLK - specifically his Dream speech - invite your kiddos to draw and describe their personal dream for the future. Have them illustrate the scene on a 4" x 4" square of white paper, then mount it on a 5" x 5" square of colored construction paper. When the squares are finished use them to create a "dream quilt" - punching holes in the sides, tying them together with yarn, and mounting the entire quilt onto a large piece of bulletin board paper.
