Another downfall of all the rain here in Northeast Ohio is that many are having to wait until the water recedes to plant their gardens. If you're finding spring planting a bit delayed too, here's a fun seed math activity that your preschoolers will love.

Supplies You'll Need

  • Sandwich Ziploc bag
  • 10 different seeds {in varying quantities}
  • Elmer's glue
  • Small paint brush
  • Seed graphing worksheet

Fill the Ziploc bags with the various seeds - make sure each bag has at least one of each seed and that there are different quantities of each variation - then script a student's name onto each. To start the exercise, have your kiddos find their bag and sort the seeds by type. Then, armed with a shallow dish of Elmer's glue and a paint brush, invite your students to paste the seeds onto the graphing worksheet. When finished with the glue, have your students count the number of each type of seed, scripting the appropriate numeral at the bottom of or beside each bar, and circling it when double-checked. Discuss terms like more than, less than, most, least, exactly, etc.
