How To Make A Hand Print Sun

Help students paint their entire hand with yellow washable paint.

Have students press their hand to the white construction paper (palm in the center and fingers pointed toward the top edge of the page).

Use this first print as a starting point. The palm will begin making the circular "body" of the sun and the fingers will be its rays. Have students add hand prints in a clockwise motion, re-coating their hand with paint before each new print, until a sun emerges!

The Poem

Bright Sun

  • Bright sun shining down,
  • Shining on the ground.
  • What a lovely face you have,
  • Yellow, big, and round.

Type and print the poem onto craft paper using word processing software and have students glue it to their calendar page.
