May

May is the time of year when spring blooms in full force! With the popular saying, "April showers bring May flowers", it seems fitting that the calendar month is represented with a hand print flower - a daffodil.

How To Make A Hand Print Daffodil

Help students paint their entire hand with yellow paint.

With their fingers close together, instruct students to create four yellow prints in a semi-circle (reloading on paint before each print). As the picture shows, the palms should face outward and the fingers should face inward, toward a common point. These will be used as the daffodil petals.

When the paint has dried, help students paint their hand with orange craft paint and invite them to make a center print. This will create the daffodil cup (or corona).

Lastly, create the daffodil stem using green paint and a paintbrush (or finger!). Then use a black marker to outline the petals and draw the details.

The Poem

Daffodil

  • A little yellow cup,
  • A little yellow frill,
  • A little yellow star,
  • And that's a daffodil.
  • ~ Author Unknown

Create poem cards using card stock (adding a decorative border) and invite students to mount the poem beside their hand print daffodils for a fresh spring look!
