Sight Word Game Kindergarten Lesson Plan

Take the tedium out of learning sight words with this fun parking lot game from Akane over at Juggling With Kids! Constructed from a simple piece of poster board, use a marker to draw parking spaces and label each space with a different focus sight word. Then, armed with toy cars, call out a word and invite your kiddos to park their car in the correct space!

The great thing about this type of review game is that it can be used, not only for sight words, but for other concepts as well...

  • Numeral & Letter Recognition. Call out a number or letter and invite your kiddos to park their car in the appropriate space.
  • Beginning Letter Sounds. Show students the picture of an object and have them park their car in the space labeled with the correct letter/beginning letter sound.
  • Rhyming Pairs. Show students the picture of an object and invite them to park their car in the space that displays the picture of its rhyming pair.
  • Addition & Subtraction. Provide students with a simple addition/subtraction problem, having them park their car in the space labeled with the correct solution.

Nothing is better than combining play with learning!
