Book Suggestions for Black History Month

If you're looking to refresh your suggested literature selections for Black History Month, we've searched some of our favorite teacher blogs/resources and found some excellent ideas.   • Scholastic.com offers a list of 11 recommended picture book titles that feature colorful graphics and engaging stories that your kiddos are sure to enjoy - on their own or as a class.
  • Reading Rockets has compiled several book lists - a combination of fiction and nonfiction - for your kinders to explore, enjoy, and learn from this month. The suggestions cover everything from the Civil Rights Movement and important figures like Rosa Parks to picture books and themed literature that discuss common things we all share - dreams, struggles, etc.
  • Just Read, Florida {the Florida Department of Education's reading initiative} has compiled a list of recommended literature - 41 titles in total - for Black History Month. With so many titles to choose from, you're sure to find something!

There are most certainly overlaps on these lists, but they'll give you a good start! If you need more ideas, ask your school librarian or a library media specialist at your local library - they'll be able to help you find what you're looking for!
