If you've tackled short vowel sounds with your kinders, here's a fun {FREE!} game from Sara at Kindergarten is a Hoot that we're certain your students will enjoy! Simply print and laminate the game board, assemble the vowel spinner, and unearth some game pieces - your kiddos will do the rest.

To play...

  • Invite students to spin the vowel spinner and identify the vowel sound.
  • Following the path on the game board, students must then read the words on each space until they find one with the matching vowel sound, advancing their game piece to that space on the board.
  • The first player to reach the gingerbread house at the end of the game board, wins!

This is a fun, low-key way to help your kiddos review short vowel sounds. Be sure to visit Kindergarten is a Hoot for this great download!

[NOTE: While the game is great as is, you might also consider tweaking it to help your kiddos review various concepts - beginning letter sounds, long vowel sounds, number words, word families, etc.]
