Literacy Center Activities: Putting Story Pages in Order

Literacy and Reading Kindergarten Lesson Plan

A great way to develop beginning reading skills is by having students practice putting story scenes/pictures in a logical order. For your kindergartners, start with a familiar story, photocopying the illustrations and inviting them to arrange the prints from memory in the proper order. When finished, physically flip-flop several of the book pages, showing your students how the story wouldn't make any sense and wouldn't flow properly if the prints were mixed up.

With this concept in mind, create a literacy center, setting out photocopied storybook pages {simple stories that are unfamiliar to your students} and having students practice putting the pages in a logical order. To help them get the hang of it, consider doing a few examples as a group or having them work with partners.
