Printing Practice with a Word Scavenger Hunt

Writing and Literacy Kindergarten Lesson Plan

Provide your kinders with an incentive to practice printing skills by making it a game! We love the idea of a word scavenger hunt, like this one at Chasing Cheerios, and think your students would too!

Supplies You'll Need

  • Vocabulary/word cards {Melissa used the "Read & Write the Room" printables from 1+1+1=1}
  • Tape
  • Clipboards
  • Word tracing sheets {these can also be found in the "Read & Write the Room" printables}
  • Pencils

[NOTE: You can certainly make your own word cards/recording worksheets, of course!]

After taping the vocabulary/word cards around the classroom, arm your kiddos with a clipboard, pencil, and tracing sheet. As they come across the various word cards on their "scavenger hunt", have them find the word on their worksheet and trace it. For beginning readers {if you use the printables from 1+1+1=1}, both the word cards and recording sheet have matching images to make it easier for your students to find each word.

[Extension: The "Read & Write the Room" printables also have recording sheets with blank lines for students to practice proper letter formation on their own!]
