Flower Drawings: Borrowing from the Style of Georgia O'Keeffe
Jacquelien of Kids Artists provides a Georgia O'Keeffe inspired flower painting to do with your fourth and fifth graders! This project will allow your students to learn about a famous artist (you may even wish to have them to a short research project to go along with this lesson) and will provide a wonderful spring- and summer-themed decoration for your classroom!
Supplies You'll Need
- Black construction paper
- Crayola oil pastels
- Wood glue
Provide each of your students with a piece of black construction paper and a pencil, encouraging them to sketch a big flower. Set out magazines, printouts, and pictures of O'Keeffe's work for inspiration. Once they're happy with their sketch, have them trace the drawing with wood glue then set the project aside to dry. Once the glue has set (it will dry clear), have your students color the background and flower with oil pastels, paying special attention to shading and coloring mixing. The results will be phenomenal!
