Songs for Preschool

Coming out with her first CD in early April, Deborah Stewart has created some great songs to incorporate into circle time with your preschoolers. Music, while being a great learning tool, is also important for allowing children to express themselves with their voices. While at times you may feel inadequate or believe your singing voice leaves much to be desired, the truth of the matter is, your audience doesn't care as long as you approach the activity with enthusiasm and fun! Lyrics for these fun, educational tunes can be found at Stewart's blog, Little Fingers That Play, along with song demonstrations and slidecasts. Once you feel comfortable with the new words and rhythms, invite your students to try them out as well. For even more fun, provide or make musical instruments to tap and play during the songs or create character hand puppets that go along with each song. For example, when introducing "The Turtle Song", have your students make their own turtle puppets to act out the story. While traditional childrens songs provide their own inspiration, try adding a little spice to your circle time with these new tunes!
