Second grade teacher, Mrs. Sargent, reminded her students of the true meaning of Thanksgiving with this colorful bulletin board and writing activity. While a few days off of school is always fun, it's important to stop and remember all of the blessings in our lives just as the pilgrims did at the first Thanksgiving nearly four centuries ago.

Notes of Thanksgiving

In the spirit of the season, Mrs. Sargent provided each of her kiddos with a pumpkin cutout, inviting them to write something they are thankful for this holiday season. Family. Friends. A warm, dry house. Food on the table. The ability to go to school and learn. We truly have so many things to be grateful for and it's important to teach young children to recognize their blessings and give thanks!

  • Background: Yellow bulletin board paper.
  • Title: "Don't Be A Turkey! Count Your Blessings!"
  • Border: Thanksgiving themed trimmer.
  • Decoration: 1) The Turkey. Create a simple turkey body from brown bulletin board paper. If you're doing the head and body in one, the shape looks kind-of like a solid figure eight {like the example below}.Turkey Kids Craft and Bulletin Board AccentUse construction paper to add facial detailing {black and white eyes, a yellow beak, a red snood, etc.}, orange construction paper to fashion feet, and more brown bulletin board paper to create wings. Finally, and one of the many things we love about this unique design, 'upcycle' colorful men's ties for the turkey's feathers! 2) The Pumpkin Patch. Use your students' pumpkin writing craftivities!
