Shelly Pickren, library director at Medinah Primary School in Illinois, sent us this fabulous Dr. Seuss display that she created for Read Across America and we think it would be a Seuss-tastic addition to any early childhood classroom or library! Reading 'opens the window' to a whole new world of possibilities and no one shows us that better than the wacky and whimsical Dr. Seuss!

Celebrate the World of Dr. Seuss

  • Background: Cover the entire board with lite blue background paper. Add two strips of blue painter's tape to create the "window grid".
  • Title: "Celebrate the World of Dr. Seuss!"
  • Border: None needed.
  • Decoration: 1) The Window. Script your favorite Dr. Seuss titles onto star shapes and add cutouts of your favorite Seuss characters to the "window"! You can purchase the cutouts, draw your own, or even find clip art images online to enlarge and print. You might also consider including printed book covers. 2) The Curtains. Find an inexpensive plastic tablecloth or shower curtain at your local home store, cutting it in half and stapling the pieces to the top of the board. To create a true curtain feel, use yarn or a piece of painter's tape to gather and tie the pieces off to the side. 3) The House. Cut a large oval from yellow bulletin board paper, using a black marker to draw several lines around the edge to create a "rug". Attach the rug to the wall under the bulletin board. Cut two simple "chairs" from red bulletin board paper, then use your classroom projector system and clip art images {found online} to trace character shapes - Dick and Sally - onto black bulletin board paper. Arrange the children and chair cutouts on the rug so that the children are looking "out the window" - and into the wonderful world of Seuss!
