"Sailor of the Week" - Nautical Back To School Classroom Door Decoration

Hartville Elementary SchoolThis past week, I had the extreme privilege of visiting my childhood elementary school to check out the newest and best in classroom decorations! Despite their busy schedules - meetings and last minute preparations before school started the next day - the gracious teachers at Hartville Elementary welcomed me into their colorful and engaging world; a world in which they will spend countless hours the next 180 days, impacting the lives of the children in our community. I thank you all for dedicating your lives to helping our children grow, both as students and individuals. Here's to a brilliant school year, ladies and gents! {And thanks a million for allowing me the opportunity to visit your classrooms! I had a blast!}

Welcome to Miss. Dailey's third grade classroom! We featured one of her bulletin boards last year - Swim in the "School" of Success - and couldn't wait to see the rest of her phenomenal artistic displays! I wasn't disappointed. Here is a shot of her door display. We love the vibrant colors {did you notice that they compliment the welcome bulletin board beyond?!}, cutesy hand-drawn sailors, and the ocean motif!

Sailor of the Week Bulletin Board

  • Background: Magenta bulletin board paper.
  • Title: "Sailor of the Week!"
  • Border: Ocean themed trimmer.
  • Decoration: 1) The Helm. Using a piece of brown background paper, find a clip art image online that can be enlarged and traced using your classroom projector system. Outline the cutout and add detailing with a black permanent marker or black craft paint. 2) The Sailors. We would also tackle this project using a clip art image and a projector system. Simply enlarge and trace the chosen images onto scraps of white bulletin board paper, then use craft paint in various colors to paint in the details. Be sure to outline the images with black. 3) The Name Cards. Purchase or create shape cutouts on which to script each of your students' names. Lisa chose pirate cutouts, but you might also choose another ocean themed item - a boat, an ocean animal, etc.

Can't wait to share our other 'finds' from Hartville Elementary, so stay tuned! Hope you all have a fantastic school year!
