"Fishy" Fun! - Back To School Fish Themed Bulletin Board Idea & Craft

Elementary Back To School Bulletin Board Idea
Adapted from photo @ kids-finelines.blogspot.com

We love this bulletin board designed by Christie, elementary art teacher and creator of the blog, Fine Lines. While the design was originally created to display her students' artwork following an exploration in color mixing {check out the original display at Fine Lines or down below}, we think this bulletin board would be a great compliment to any early childhood classroom ~ especially if you have an "Under the Sea" theme in mind!

"Fishy" Fun Bulletin Board

  • Background: Cover the entire bulletin board with aqua background paper. Using craft paint in various "sea" shades - white, hues of blue, seafoam green, etc. - and a variety of circle shaped printing tools {you might use circle cookie cutters, mason jars, drinking glasses, recycled paper towel/toilet paper tubes, empty masking/duct tape dispensers, etc}, create "bubbles" all over the bulletin board paper.
  • Title: "FISH-ing For A Great Year!" or something equally "fishy"! The photo shows colorful computer generated signs with fun fonts, but you can also use traditional bulletin board letters.
  • Border: Complimentary solid color trimmer.
  • Decoration: Begin by decorating paper plates {Christie decorated eleven in total} using craft paint, scraps of art tissue paper, glitter, sequins, fabric/tulle scraps, and/or any other way you choose! To go with the "back-to-school" theme, script the various subjects/skills to be learned throughout the year onto the decorated {and dried!} paper plates, or leave them blank if you prefer. Arrange the plates on the board to make the fish "body". From orange construction or background paper, cut a tail, head, and two fins to attach around the plates. Find a large blue button to glue onto white card stock, cut out, and glue to the "head" cutout to create an eye for the fish.
