Here's another fabulous idea from the talented Jennifer White of First Grade Blue Skies! With a quick glance, you'll be able to see which of your eager explorers are in class and which are absent. Not only that, your students will love their morning responsibility of "checking in" as they begin the day!

Under The Sea Attendance Bulletin Board

  • Background: Aqua bulletin board paper.
  • Title: "Diving Into _______________ [First Grade, Mrs. Nelson's Class, etc.]" - We love the eclectic mixture of bulletin board letters!
  • Border: Brightly colored pattern border.
  • Decoration: 1) The Submarines. We're not exactly sure how Jennifer created her submarines {i.e. if she used a Cricut or another such tool}, but our suggestion is to find a clip art image online or through your word processing software, using it to create a template to trace or printing the black and white version directly onto colored paper. Six fit perfectly on Jennifer's board, but make as many as you need! 2) The Attendance Boards. Find three brightly patterned metal serving trays at your local home store {or cover regular inexpensive cookie sheets/baking trays with patterned scrapbook paper}, adding a label to each - "Our Class", "Absent", and "Present" - and attach these to the bulletin board. Create magnets from student pictures and place them on the "Our Class" tray. Each day, students who are present can move their picture magnet to the "Present" tray, while the rest can be moved to the "Absent" tray when you finalize attendance for the day.
