Learning to tell time can be a daunting task for elementary learners. Try a hands-on approach with this fun activity and bulletin board from second grade teacher, Mrs. Naylor! Using a large clock activity mat, students will have a blast using their body to 'display' the time called out. As they check out their smiling faces on the board {and those of their classmates}, students won't even realize that they're reviewing and learning!

All Clocked Out Bulletin Board

  • Background: Yellow bulletin board paper.
  • Title: "All Clocked Out!"
  • Border: Colorfully patterned border or math-themed trimmer.
  • Decoration: Use a card stock template to trace and cut clock cutouts from red construction paper. Print and glue student pictures to each, using a marker to script their name and the time they are displaying.

Extension: Interactive Component

Consider creating an interactive board that your students can use to practice telling time throughout the unit. Instead of printing the time displayed by each student at the top of the clock cutout, leave the area blank, providing time strips or number tiles in an envelope at the bottom of the board for students to match and attach using Velcro dots.
