The verbal and non-verbal messages in your classroom matter. Students need positive messages and reinforcement to build their confidence as learners. Here is a great fall apple themed display designed by Ms. Julie, preschool teacher at McKinley Early Childhood, that not only recognizes the hard work her students do every day, but gives a positive message that if students try their hardest they'll succeed!
A Bushel Full of Good Workers Bulletin Board
- Background: White bulletin board paper.
- Title: "A Bushel Full of Good Workers"
- Border: Fall leaf bulletin border, apple themed trimmer, or a complimentary solid color bordette.
- Decoration: 1) The Basket. Tape several pieces of brown construction paper together or cut a large piece of brown bulletin board paper and use an overhead projector to enlarge and trace the shape of a basket onto the paper. You could also freehand the basket if you don't want to mess with the projector. 2) The Apples. Design an apple template from card stock, tracing it to create apples from construction paper in assorted colors (e.g. green, red, yellow). It might also work to find a black and white clip-art print online or through your word processing software that can be used to print the apple shapes directly onto colored card stock to be cut out. Use a permanent marker to write the names of your new students on individual apples. Arrange the apples in the basket and around the bulletin board display.
How do you let your students know that their hard work is appreciated? We'd love to hear your thoughts so leave us a comment!
